Lady Bird (2017) – Reviewed on 25th January 2020

★★★★½

This movie is phenomenal! I can’t believe I hadn’t watched this before. This is one of the best, if not the best coming of age movies I have ever watched. Greta Gerwig is bang-on in her debut as a filmmaker and the Gerwig-Baumbach power couple has been making some of the best films of the last few years. Ronan is amazing as the titular character as she navigates through her final years of high school. Each character is so well written and fleshed out that each scene feels like it’s carefully crafted and yet so raw and so beautiful. The writing and direction are really what make this such a unique experience for what is a pretty cliche storyline. My only issue with the movie is that Timothee Chalamet’s character (Timothee has my whole heart) feels underwritten, one-dimensional and underused. But this is such a small aspect of the film that it is hard to notice. Overall, if you’re going away from home to college soon, go watch Lady Bird.
