Spotlight (2015) – Reviewed on 12th August 2019

My god, watching this movie was a heavy experience. By no means is this is a ‘boring’ movie. It’s really entertaining and interesting but it’s important to enter with the right mindset. I’ve been meaning to rewatch this movie for so long because I never watched the whole thing and I remember so little. I had no idea this film would hit me so hard with its emotional beats. It’s a very realistic and dark approach to filmmaking and the fact that this is based on true events is absolutely horrifying. This movie doesn’t waste time letting characters celebrate their minor accomplishments, it instead uses that time to develop character and build plot which works in its favour massively. Micheal Keaton, Mark Ruffalo and Rachel McAdams do such a phenomenal job in this movie that at times you forget that these are actors and that’s the beauty of this film, it’s almost like a documentary in the best way possible. I was mesmerised by the movie and I’m really happy I own it on Blu-Ray.
