Holy shit, I have to review this movie. I’ll say one thing, no one will have the same opinion on this movie and this is mine. This movie is not good, I liked it initially but the more I thought about, the more I realized that it’s not good. On its own, it’s solid, it’s entertaining, it’s visually breathtaking and the acting is phenomenal but unfortunately, this is Star Wars and it can’t be viewed as a stand-alone film. When combined with the previous two films in the trilogy (which in my opinion, are really good), this falls flat on its face. It’s sort of a feeble attempt at saying ‘f*** you’ to The Last Jedi, while also desperately trying to be a spiritual sequel to The Force Awakens. What ends up coming out is a mess of a movie, which is so complicated at times that you have no idea what’s going on. It’s like Disney’s Star Wars division will just do anything the fans tell them to do and don’t have a single ounce of originality or genuineity in them which is really disappointing considering how well they handled Marvel. They clearly had no roadmap or clear-cut path as to what this trilogy needs to be and hence makes it an inconsistent mess. I did love a few things about it though, Kylo Ren/Ben Solo is one of the most compelling characters in Star Wars and what they’ve done with him in this movie is brilliant. Leia was also handled extremely well. Rey is a positive at times. The visuals and score were some of the highlights as I got to see this in IMAX. As someone who has Star Wars rooted very deeply in their heart, I was disappointed to see that this was the way they chose to end it. But everyone I know has different opinions about it, so go watch it and form your opinions.
