Unpopular Opinion: This movie is kinda overrated. It’s fun (at least the second half), it’s interesting enough and the last thirty minutes are actually beautiful. But for most of the runtime, this feels like a slow-moving, old-fashioned train that is trying to say something but just ends up feeling dated. I understand why it’s so iconic and stuff but I can’t get behind the movie’s method of deconstructing these stereotypes as if no one comes from a loving, nurturing family. I’m probably wrong and maybe I’m too used to watching art films to appreciate this but I was not impressed. The message was powerful, the execution not so much.
