This film is extremely fun and energetic. There is no sense of boredom or lack of entertainment in any part of this movie. It’s a really interesting and original take on the ‘whodunnit’ genre and is one of the most authentic and unique murder mystery films I’ve ever watched. Rian Johnson is an incredible director and this movie made me admire him more. What he does with information and its delivery is unlike anything I’ve seen in a detective story before. Daniel Craig is obviously the standout in the ensemble cast with huge names like Chris Evans, Jamie Lee Curtis, Ana de Armas, Micheal Shannon, Don Johnson and Lakeith Steinfeld all giving wonderful performances. The story in itself is already extremely compelling without the added benefit that this film has some of the most incredible writing I’ve ever read. The dialogue is so witty and rich that it makes a screenwriter like me drool. Even the political commentary in the film is extremely well handled by showing both sides of the argument in a nuanced and humorous way. I felt like a few of the characters were underdeveloped (one Nazi especially) and made little impact and were used as mere plot devices or one-note gags which did annoy me in some scenes where I felt these characters had a lot of potential. That doesn’t detract much from the overall enjoyment of this movie and I would definitely recommend this to everyone (which I haven’t been able to say in a long time).
