Monsters, Inc. is incredible! The story is so beautifully captured in the limited 90 minutes that you can’t help but feel that this is an incredible film. Now, it isn’t ‘masterpiece’ levels, not in my opinion at least. It’s not as deep on an adult or mature level as some of the other entries by this company but it exceeds all expectations for a kids film. Mike Wazowski is one of the most incredible characters put to animation. His personality is simply electric. Randall is a genuinely terrifying villain. He is so unpredictable. The movie still has a lot to say about corporate structures and such things but its main focal point is obviously the budding relationship between Boo and James Sullivan. Their bond and connection is such a special relationship that we rarely get to see in media. The animation doesn’t hold up to today’s standards very well, it’s certainly a bit wonky and looks hilariously bad in some places but it was the first movie to animate fur and look how far we’ve come since then. Also, this was a great watch for Pixar Theory enthusiasts like me, who were looking for all the clues. I wouldn’t say that you HAVE to go and rewatch this like I did for Ratatouille which I still think is a better film but definitely try your best to watch this if you don’t have anything else to watch because it’s still incredibly entertaining.
