I had so much hope for this movie. This is the Suicide Squad spin-off that had so much promise. After Shazam! and Joker, DC were on a hot streak. This is also their first ‘A’ or ‘R’ rated film in this DCEU. But this film is an utter disappointment, it fails in everything it tries to do miserably. It’s not funny, it’s not well-written, the characters are incredibly underdeveloped, Harley Quinn is extremely annoying, it’s political agenda is ham-fisted, even Ewan McGregor isn’t convincing in this mess of a movie. The fight scenes are watchable. The color palate is quite fun and interesting. The soundtrack is also not bad. But I wouldn’t call anything in this movie ‘good’ other than the performance by Mary Elizabeth Winstead, who is one of the only bearable characters with even a semblance of realism. It wasn’t even a fun watch. It was tedious even though it’s a quite short movie, I really felt each minute. I was bored and not engaged by this movie. I think this is one of the poorest efforts by DC in recent years. It’s in that low tier that Suicide Squad and Batman v Superman lie in. I do not recommend this movie to anyone, it’s a cheap Deadpool knockoff with none of the humour and none of the charm.
