I have never watched anything like One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest in my life. It is only one of 3 movies in 91 years to win the Big 5 Oscars (Best Picture, Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best Actor (Male), Best Actor (Female). I think it completely deserves all of those awards as it is one of the most memorable movies I’ve ever watched. Jack Nicholson is a legend of acting, and you can see why here. The symbolism of order v chaos, crazy v normal is insanely deep. The entire supporting cast of likeable eccentric characters are very fun and each of their characters have such unique developments. But how can someone talk about this movie without talking about Louise Fletcher’s Nurse Ratched, she makes you hate her so effectively that you forget that it’s an actress playing a role and not a real person. This movie connected with me on a personal level, because on some messed up level, I relate to Jack Nicholson’s character. I was blown away by this film and I can’t think of any flaws. Absolute perfection.
