If I had to use one word to describe this movie, it’s ‘epic’. The character of Javier Bardem’s Anton Chigurh is enough to carry this movie but it goes from normal to masterpiece because of actors like Josh Brolin, Woody Harrelson and Tommy Lee Jones. It’s an extremely riveting and suspenseful movie. It isn’t as funny as the Coen Brother’s other movies but it’s still brilliant. The characters are not the only thing that makes this brilliant though. It’s the script and direction by the Coen brothers that sets this apart from your average action movie. It’s a neo-noir Western which is such a unique genre. It’s a very layered and powerful movie. You cannot talk about it without mentioning the cinematography by Roger Deakins, who is probably the greatest cinematographer alive. The symbolism and character study is also extremely detailed. I can’t pick out any flaws but I still didn’t feel like it impacted me in a way in which I could justify a 5-star. Still a brilliant movie and deserving of all its praise and accolades.
