I decided to rewatch the MCU. Firstly, because I love the MCU and it was a huge part of my childhood and still is a huge part of my personality. I remember watching Iron Man in theatres aged 5. Iron Man is great! It really set up this monstrosity of a franchise. When I hear ‘Back in Black’, I think of Iron Man. It opens in one of the most effective opening scenes in a film, period. The character arc is so well defined, it’s almost spelled out for you. But not in an obnoxious in-your-face way but in a nuanced, subtle way. But nothing about the film is subtle. It’s a very self-aware film. It enjoys the opulence. A broke Marvel took a B-list character and made people cry when he died later. The direction by Jon Favreau is quite spectacular. I think it’s safe to say that other than Daniel Radcliffe as Harry Potter, RDJ as Tony Stark is one of the best casting decisions made for all parties involved. The only weak link in the movie is Jeff Bridges’ Obadadiah Stane. It started the trend of mediocre MCU villains. This movie started it all and I have to give it credit for that. I love you 3000, Iron Man!
