Scott Pilgrim vs. the World is a very bizarre film. I find it surprising that I’ve never watched Edgar Wright’s work and based on my first impression, what can I say? I’m a fan. A manga adaptation video-game musical movie shouldn’t work. Not only does SPvtW work, it does so spectacularly. It’s one of the best examples of style over substance, but the style is so distinctly unique and exciting that you get sucked into this world. This is one of the most visually interesting films I’ve ever watched. Micheal Cera is also hilarious in this movie. Mary Elizabeth Winstead is also impressive. But the two show-stealing cameos are by Chris Evans and Brie Larson (who both went on to play MCU characters with ‘Captain’ in their name haha). The songs in this movie are so funny and they’re genuinely fun to listen to. You come for the style and you leave, just happier. It’s a very charming, fun and energetic movie. You’re never bored. But it’s not for everyone and I could see people being put-off by this film and that’s fine. I really enjoyed Scott Pilgrim v the World!
