Popstar is an underrated gem. All I need to say is that Usher, 50 Cent, Simon Cowell, Ringo Starr and Mariah Carey all appear in the first 5 minutes of the movie and they aren’t even the best part. Popstar is so well-made, I can’t believe that it isn’t a cult-classic already. The movie is only 86 minutes long which makes it a very breezy watch. It’s hilarious in the way it satirizes the pop-industry and social media in the ‘mockumentary’ format which Andy Samberg and his Lonely Island crew have mastered. But by far the highlights of the film are all the incredible songs. They’re so funny and yet somehow catchy. My personal favourites are “Mona Lisa is an Overrated Piece of Sh*t” and “F*cked Bin Laden”. Andy Samberg is great as usual. This is just a really fun and entertaining movie.
