I’m not going to comment much on the social importance of this film in this review because I have a whole article coming soon about that so I’m going to try and assess this film from a purely filmmaking perspective. Spike Lee is incredibly talented and it shows in this film. It’s a 150 minute long movie that doesn’t overstay its welcome for a single second. Even scenes that feel slow and unnecessary as you watch them suddenly become relevant later in the film. The use of archival footage definitely adds to the viewing experience as it renders a very specific reaction from the audience. Delroy Lindo gives an acting masterclass in this film, one of the best acting performance put to film in the last 10 years and leaves you riveted in every bone in your body. The rest of the actors are also brilliant. It’s really hard to find something I didn’t like in this film. This is one you shouldn’t miss!
