This movie is extremely warm. Think of the feeling you get from warm cookies fresh from the oven or a hug from your best friend after months of not meeting, that’s the feeling that this film gives. I’m really interested in checking out Richard Curtis’ other work after watching this. It goes from a love story to something different and this transition is what makes this film special. It takes this already unique premise and takes it one step further. Domnall Gleeson is so convincing in this film and you really feel for his character. Rachel McAdams is also delightful in this film. However, the standout performance comes from Bill Nighy and his relationship with his son is what makes this film so touching. Curtis’ writing is a bit over-indulgent and this film does meander a lot. The narration is also unnecessary and while it doesn’t detract from the experience, a lot of what is said in the narration is implied or could easily be conveyed in an alternative way. The soundtrack for this film is quite unorthodox as it doesn’t have an ordinary score but a compilation of songs which are quite soothing to listen to. Curtis takes a lot of liberties with his time-travel related rules and ‘butterfly effects’ but it can be forgiven because this doesn’t pretend to be a sci-fi film. I recommend you check this out for a good time.
