I really liked Hot Fuzz. I found it hilarious. I was prepared for the style of comedy because I had watched Shaun of the Dead but this ups the game in a lot of ways. Edgar Wright shows his genius yet again and his amazing combination of drama, action and intrigue is what makes this film so fun and interesting as a watch. I think something this film accomplishes spectacularly is evoking an emotional response from the viewer. Whether that’s frustration at Angel’s predicament or the nonchalance of the villagers. I’ll be the first to admit that I did not expect many of the twists and turns that happened in this film and I’m glad that it was framed the way it was cause it certainly makes it a far more interesting viewing experience. Everything is perfect and the film was turning out to be one of my all-time favourite comedies until the third act where the overuse of action and just the nonsensical shooting without any stakes makes it a bland ending. The hand-to-hand stuff is well choreographed but that is few and far between in this mish mash of random bullets being sprayed with seemingly no consequences and the value of human life being degraded to a body count in a film that was so personal and touching until that moment. If it were not for the third act, I would have given this film a perfect score and still recommend that everyone checks it out!
