The World’s End is one of my favourite comedies of all time. I had watched the previous two films in the Cornetto trilogy so my expectations were already sky high and somehow this managed to top even those. This is an absolutely delightful and entertaining comedy from the immensely talented Edgar Wright. At this point, it seems as if everything he touches turns to gold and it’s amazing to see how unique and interesting this film is. I love the tonal shift and the way the script is structured because it plays with the textbook three-act structure in so many unique ways and challenges your perception of genre in film. Simon Pegg and Nick Frost are brilliant as usual and seeing their typical roles reversed was quite a refreshing take and I feel like these actors work best when they have each other to play off of. The score is so fun to listen to and the energy of the film in general is phenomenal. I’m sad to see this revolutionary trilogy end but I’m also very excited to watch Baby Driver and Wright’s new film because he has set the expectations very high for me.
