Goddamn I loved this movie. First film of 2021, my friends recommended it to me after I said that The Imitation Game wasn’t technical and didn’t explore the Turing-test enough. I’ve gotta say, that I am thoroughly impressed by this film. The thing it does best is how it controls the flow of information to the audience. Instead of revealing things how they are, it does this really gradual transition of perspective. In the end, the film itself could be a Turing test for the viewer which is super interesting to think about. Alicia Vikander is simply phenomenal in this film, the nuance in her performance is unlike anything I’ve seen in an AI being portrayed before. Oscar Isaac is also completely consumed by his character and I couldn’t recognize him until the credits. The performance is immaculate and I have no complaints. The only performance I wasn’t a fan of was Domhnall Gleeson’s but somehow the stunted acting and unconvincing American accent improved the film as it made me more on-edge and uncomfortable. I would recommend this film to everyone but especially those interested in psychology and computer science cause it does really interesting explorations of both.
