This year I wanted to a monthly wrap up of everything I’ve watched and make an accessible list for people to be able to look at everything I watched without having to read each individual review. There are so many films that I watch which I don’t write full-fledged reviews for and there are other long-form media that I consume which I wouldn’t otherwise be able to recommend.
13. Nomadland

While I wasn’t the biggest fan of Nomadland, I certainly see the merits of it and understand that it is an artistic masterclass even if it is not highly engaging or interesting for me personally.
12. The White Tiger

I hate that over a decade since Slumdog Millionaire came out, India still has to be portayed as some backwards country and it just doesn’t bode well. Still entertaining but the more I think about it, the more I hope that this was given to an Indian director who has more passion for the country.
11. Bloody Nose, Empty Pockets

I felt like it was interesting conceptually and the storytelling overall was pretty good but it lacked the depth and nuance of superior documentaries.
10. Yours Sincerely, Kanan Gill

I found myself smiling more than laughing in this special but it was still overall funny although I feel like he made 5 jokes and kept recycling them for an hour.
9. Some Kind of Heaven

Amazing cinematography for a film, forget a documentary and the storytelling was really interesting but I didn’t find myself as engrossed or captivated by this as I should have been.
8. Bo Burnham, Make Happy

After a conversation with my friends, I realized I hadn’t watch enough stand-up in 2020, so I decided to venture into that territory and I started with this. While it wasn’t laugh-out-loud funny, it was still entertaining and I certainly found myself thoroughly impressed with writing on display.
7. Euphoria: F*ck Anyone Who’s Not A Sea Blob

This was super well-written and I loved the fact that even this was one long conversation. I thought it was executed far better in the Rue episode but this gets me positively hyped for the new season!
6. A Serious Man

This was such a unique and different film. I loved how it was so isolated and still so connected with everything the Coen brothers make. The exploration of religion and existentialism was certainly an interesting take on topics rarely covered usually
5. Middleditch & Schwartz

Golden. Check it out, I highly recommend it!
4. Ex Machina

As a Computer Science nerd, I loved all the interesting geeky bits of this film. It’s simply flawless from beginning to end and I really enjoyed watching it.
3. The History of the Seattle Mariners

You know your YouTube video is a masterpiece when it finds its way to Letterboxd. What an interesting docu-series!
2. Promising Young Woman

I really loved this film and I thought that its message was so important and powerful. I was fascinated by how it approached so many issues with so much nuance and stylistic flair.
1. Diary of a Wimpy Kid

I unironically think that this film is the beginning of one of the greatest trilogies of all time and the tone and characters it establishes are timeless. Masterpiece. What else could be first place?
