I genuinely don’t understand any of the criticism being aimed at this film. I did not find it boring for a single second. Everything about this film was incredible. Imagine you took just the argument scene from Marriage Story (one of my favourite scenes in film) and turned it into a film. That’s what this is. But that would be oversimplifying its brilliance. Every qualitative element is nearly perfect in this film. The direction is flawless maintaining the wave-like nature of the tone perfectly through the run-time. The writing is some of the best I’ve seen ever. Imagine writing an argument that’s so engrossing that it can keep you engaged for 105 minutes, that’s what this phenomenal script achieves. Both John David Washington and Zendaya give the best performances of their career in this film and I expect they will both be in Oscar contention come March 2022. The soundtrack is perfect for the tone and vibe of this film and complements the scenes in a magical way. The cinematography is simply perfect, there is not a single shot in this film that can’t be framed and put up as an art piece. There was not a single thing I disliked about this film and I can’t wait to rewatch it. I feel like this will be my favourite film of the year and it will be quite hard to top this!
