I Watched Atleast One Movie Everyday in February 2021

It was 7th of February, 2021 when I realized I had watched a film every day of the month so far and after that I resolved to make sure I watched atleast one film everyday for the rest of the month. Over the course of this month, I watched all of Wes Anderson’s filmography, rewatched some of my favourite films, discovered some regional gems and just learnt so much about film. I obviously couldn’t write full reviews for every movie I watched so here is a small review and ranking for every film I watched in February 2021.

37. Maelstrom

This might be because I wasn’t paying full attention and the film is in French so a lot of it went over my head but I did not enjoy this watching experience.

36. August 32nd on Earth

Again, I was not really too impressed by Denis’ debut film and while I see the seeds being planted for his career, this one did not capture my attention for too long.

35. High Fidelity

Maybe it’s a Gen Z thing but this just felt like The WatchMojo Movie. It was just too conceited and pretentious for me to appreciate.

34. The 40 Year Old Virgin

Man, it’s funny but so problematic. It has not aged well.

33. Tony Parker: The Final Shot

It’s a meh documentary from a technical perspective but it was amazing seeing Tony and his effect on France and basketball in general. Unexpected cameos from Theirry Henry and Kobe (RIP) made me smile a lot. It definitely picks up pace as it goes on and was very enjoyable towards the end.

32. Bottle Rocket

Started off my Wes binge with this. Didn’t hate it, didn’t love it. But it was great to see the origin of a lot of elements that get explored upon more in his filmography later. It was still a fun watch.

31. Isle of Dogs

Rewatched it as a part of my Wes Binge. I liked it less upon rewatch in context of all of Wes’ other work but still it’s a solid movie that I’ve already written an in-depth review for on this very blog.

30. First Reformed

I understand why everyone adores this film. All the pieces are there for it to be a masterpiece but it just didn’t click for me sadly. I really wanted to love this film, but it just wasn’t my cup of tea. But Ethan Hawke deserved an Oscar nomination for this.

29. Moonrise Kingdom

While I can certainly see why so many people love this film, I didn’t love it personally. I liked it and found it entertaining but didn’t fall in love with it like I did with the rest of Wes’ work.

28. Point Break

Watched it for Karstcast. Pure adrenaline and testosterone milkshake.

27. Ant-Man

I didn’t review this cause my opinion of it did not change since when i first watched it. It’s so charming and well made and has Edgar Wright written all over it but it still feels like filler in the overarching MCU.

26. Take the Ball, Pass the Ball

I don’t even like Barcelona but I really enjoyed this documentary. That being said, it dragged a bit in the middle. Otherwise, it was perfect. I highly recommend for all football fans, especially Barca fans.

25. Visaranai (Interrogation)

Language – Tamil

It was so good in the first half but it spirals into a convoluted, implausible mess in the second. Half visceral masterpiece, half complicated political thriller, this film never lacks intensity and never fails to keep you hooked.

24. The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou

Wes Anderson is so talented and this is yet another magnificent display of his technical and artistic prowess as a director.

23. Moon

It was The Martian before The Martian and Sam Rockwell is an absolute delight in this film.

22. Dogma

This was sooooo crazy, but I had a great time. Some of the jokes HAVE NOT aged well though. Also Matt Damon Loki foreshadowing big time.

21. Punch-Drunk Love

Technical masterpiece and one of the best romantic films of all time. Highly recommend.

20. Guardians of the Galaxy

Somehow it grew on me even more. This film is so enjoyable and iconic. The MCU was never the same after this!

19. Avengers: Age of Ultron

Watched this for Wandavision and accidentally released this is Marvel’s underappreciated masterpiece.

18. Never Let Me Go

My best friend made me watch this on the night before my dream college decision and it was such a surprisingly good movie. Highly recommend it!

17. Booksmart

A quintessential coming-of-age film with so much heart and incredible nuance in the way it conveys it’s themes.

16. Secret Zoo

Language – Korean

This was so dumb and still so fun. I really enjoyed it!

15. The Kid Detective

I DID NOT expect to love this film as much as I did. It’s so underrated and I really had a good time!

14. Rushmore

You slowly see Wes Anderson’s style develop here and it’s a wonder to watch. Overall great fun, didn’t write an in-depth review because there was so much that’s hard to put into words that I loved about this film.

13. WHAT DID JACK DO?

What and also wow and also huh and also amazing and also why and also brilliant

12. First Man

I didn’t expect to love this as much as I did but Damien Chazelle masterclass.

11. Malcolm & Marie

So many people didn’t like this but I was absolutely engrossed and enthralled the whole time. Loved it.

10. The Royal Tenenbaums

I’m chickened out of reviewing yet another Wes Anderson film and I felt so bad but it’s so hard to articulate what this film made me feel and while technically it’s perfect, I try not to make my reviews essays about filmmaking cause there are enough of those.

9. The Grand Budapest Hotel

Flawlessly funny and so so well shot and well made.

8. Pilots

The score, the cinematography, the direction, the acting, the soundtrack, the *insert more film words* are all perfect. The Oscars should come knocking soon.

7. Fantastic Mr. Fox

It’s a masterpiece, what can I say?

6. Mean Girls

This was so so fun and it’s a masterpiece in its own right. LOVED IT!

5. The Darjeeling Limited

I was FLOORED by how good this film was. It’s a favourite of many of my friends’ and it did not disappoint. Highly recommend.

4. 12 Angry Men

Considered one of the greatest films of all time for a reason. Brilliant film.

3. Godhi Banna Sadharana Mykattu

Language – Kannada

This was so good, it ended up being one of my favourite films of all time. I absolutely loved this masterpiece.

2. Captain America: Civil War

It’s still my favourite MCU film of all time and in my top 5 for favourite films ever.

1. The Social Network

It feels like cheating putting my favourite movie of all time here but I did rewatch this month so…..

If you got through that whole list, thank you. I know March won’t be as productive in terms fo film consumption but I am really happy with what I achieved in February. It was exhausting towards the end and maintaining the streak became a burden rather than something I loved as I was powering through some boring movies in 2x but it was all worth it in the end because A) I learnt so much about film as a medium as I tried my best to explore a diverse collection of films and B) Even if one person, reads this whole list and finds some good recommendations I have achieved my goal as a film critic. Thank you for reading!
