I am an idiot. Everyone loves this except for me but this really didn’t work for me and I really wanted to love it but sadly, I didn’t. It had a really promising start and I was enthralled by the first half but as the film progressed I did not like it as much. This could have easily been an hour shorter according to me and I found myself getting not bored but definitely feeling like some bits were unnecessary. Milos Forman indulges himself in extravagance and for me, it was rather overwhelming and it just didn’t hit me the way it was supposed to. I’ll be the first to admit that F Murray Abraham and Tom Hulce are both phenomenal in their roles and add so much depth to these nuanced characters. It was the screenplay that made the film less enjoyable for me as the runtime went on, as it became very self-indulgent and kept going back to this premise of God and for me, it didn’t work. It seemed conceited and out of place. Other technical aspects of the film are perfect like the cinematography, set design, soundtrack but for some reason, this film didn’t click with me. I know I’m disappointing a lot of people but that’s what I was after watching this film, disappointed.
