★★★★½

I did not expect this show to be this good. Before it came out, I was fully prepared for a shallow, by-the-numbers action show with no depth and just some cool punches but what I ended up getting was one of the most nuanced and well-made shows that the MCU has put out. This picks up tonally right where Civil War left off and we really get to explore these characters separate from what they were to Steve and I feel like that was really important for the development of both Sam and Bucky. This show combines a great script with some of the best shots in the MCU. The cinematography is genuinely a cut above and some of the takes in this film are absolutely gorgeous. The way it deals with racism and the issue of refugees and borders is so so mature and the perspective it shows to it’s humongous audience will no doubt be important for many to understand the depth and nature of these issue. This show does not pull its punches and I’m so glad about that. Some immature people will find it ‘cringe’ but that’s because they come to shows like this expecting some crazy action scenes and nothing else so they get surprised when the show takes such a mature stance with such rich perspectives. It feels earned because of how it uses actual people who’ve been on those circumstances to give its perspective on these issues. I highly recommend this show for mature people who are fine with a little food for thought mixed into their run-of-the-mill MCU fare.
