Forget the social importance or the cultural significance of the film, just as a superhero movie, I really like Black Panther but when you add something that was so groundbreaking in terms of representation and outreach, it elevates this film to the next level. Black Panther is such a wonderfully refreshing entry to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. They were building up to their biggest event in history and managing to be this good preceding Infinity War is an achievement in itself. Ryan Coogler manages to craft such an intricate story that asks so many important political questions while managing to enrich this world with the way it portrays Wakanda. Choosing Kendrick Lamar, who is undoubtedly the most respected name in the hip-hop world to handle the soundtrack was a masterstroke. I respect that Marvel didn’t make a half-baked effort. They went the whole way. The action scenes were kind of disappointing and the CGI is really bad at times but otherwise, this film is such a great watch. Chadwick Boseman has this royal presence to him and that’s something I’ll always miss. Micheal B Jordan plays Killmonger who is one of the most interesting and unique MCU villains because he’s right. He makes an impact on our protagonist. And when he dies, it feels earned and it’s devastating. You understand that his ends are righteous, it was only his means that were lacking and that makes him one of the most nuanced and groundbreaking MCU villains. I really like Black Panther and I’m really sad about Chadwick Boseman because he was something special.
