This film was so so much fun. I cannot tell you that I was bored for a single minute and the action and comedy were very effective. James Gunn has this type of film on lock now and no one does it like him. This feels a lot like GotG but in a good way. It still has its own flair and the A-rating gives it a lot of freedom to spread its wings and have fun with the concept. The 2016 Suicide Squad film is probably my least favourite film ever because I was so hyped for it and it completely let me down. I can say positively that the opposite was the case for me in this film. I had very low expectations and I was so impressed by what Gunn and his team have pulled off. The concept of the Suicide Squad is so much better implemented in this film and it’s a truly unpredictable film which is so rare nowadays. I could call this Chekov’s film because of how many brilliant callbacks it has, not a single line or joke is wasted in this film. The cast is great as expected, Idris Elba and surprisingly John Cena are the highlights of this film in terms of performance because they both do something which is not normal for them and still pulls it off so well. My only flaw with this film is that it feels kind of empty in the end. Like it’s a very well constructed statue on the outside, with these beautiful set-pieces (the colour palette was phenomenally vibrant), a gripping and exciting score, great comedy, good writing, fun action and brilliant characters but it’s hollow on the inside. It feels like a sequence of interconnected scenes rather than a coherent film. It also feels like it’s 10-15 minutes longer than it should be but these are smaller complaints compared to the amount of fun I had. This is the perfect movie to return to theatres to watch and I had a great time!
