I have watched every Marvel film in theatres (except Black Widow cause it didn’t release in India) since 2015 and I haven’t had an experience quite like this one. I wouldn’t say it’s the best but in terms of immersion and technical aspects, this has got to be up there at the top. We so often complain about how all Marvel films look the same and that the scores are indistinguishable from one another, so it was such a breath of fresh air to experience this technical masterpiece. The score was absolutely breathtaking and had me completely stunned as to how beautifully composed it was. I had the central theme ringing in my head long after the film concluded. The cinematography was also gorgeous, it wasn’t an explosion of colour like GotG but it made use of contrast and visual complements really really well. The juxtaposition of orange/blue, yellow/red, black/green and other pairings in the visual palette gave the film a distinct look. The acting was also top-notch with Simu Liu and Awkwafina killing their roles but the standout performer in this film was Tony Leung who was so convincing in his role and has to be one of the best MCU villains so far. Marvel is getting really good at the villain thing now and I’m excited to see the rest of the villains in Phase 4. The fight choreography was absolutely out of this world, my jaw was glued to the floor in some action sequences because of how unique and fluid they were. The team really put a lot of effort into the action being authentic and representing the Kung-Fu films of the 70s and 80s and I’m glad to say they’ve succeeded brilliantly. My only gripe with the film was that the central plot was a bit too formulaic and generic but with so many positives you can only complain so much. I really really recommend watching this film in theatres if you can because it was an unforgettable experience.
Movie was 5/5 but popcorn was 10/5
