This movie is just a really good time. I was not bored for a single second. The film is so stylish and visually interesting that you just can’t catch a second to breathe. It’s also written so well that it manages to balance three or four concurrent storylines while making you invested in all of them while interconnecting them all brilliantly. Not once was I confused or disoriented by the plot structure. It was done with a deft touch that really showed. Almost every performance was brilliant here. Brad Pitt, Aaron Taylor Johnson, and Hiroyuki Sanada were all amazing in their roles. The standout performer was Bryan Tyree Henry as the character Lemon. He played it with this brilliant mix of suave and heart with great comedic timing. The action was also really great. You can tell that David Leitch has an action background because the choreography and action direction are so breathless and never fail to impress. The setting of the Bullet Train is also very exciting, and I loved how it was used as a narrative device. Another thing that really impressed me was the score/soundtrack; it was so energetic and kept me invested in the film throughout.l I really liked the revelation at the end, even if it was delivered through a cliche monologue. My issues with the film stem from its complete lack of subtlety at times. The script gets too literal, or the film makes really lame and overdone jokes at times which takeaway from the overall enjoyment. I also didn’t like the last 15 minutes; it completely derails (hehe) the tone and the pace of the film and makes it so cliche. With a better ending and some more work on the script, this could have been a modern action masterpiece, but this leaves you slightly unsatisfied.
