Wow. I went in optimistic about this movie cause I’d pretty much only heard good things about it, but I didn’t expect that I would love it THIS MUCH. It is an incredible film in every way. This summer, I had to take care of my grandma, who was in a deteriorating condition, so maybe watching a movie about that at this time just hit in the right way, but I haven’t felt this many emotions watching a movie in so long. Marcel is the most precious and wholesome protagonist of any movie ever. I wish he was real and I could adopt him and keep him in my room and talk to him all day. The film is so intelligent in finding the right balance between humor and sentimentality. It leaves you with a smile throughout, even in the sad moments, because the outlook of the character is so joyful. The story was so cookie-cutter and predictable, but I didn’t feel bored for a single second cause the writing was so mature and brilliant. It tackled grief, love, relationships, why we create content, unconditional care, how we form bonds with people and so many other human topics that I haven’t even unpacked within in the runtime of 90 minutes. I genuinely feel like this movie was made for me, and yet I can see why it’s so universally loved. Even if you’ve never been through anything similar, you’ll find this so delightful. The Nana character was also so charming, and I never felt annoyed by her even as her condition got worse. I love how realistic its portrayal of how the final days of a human being are. This is definitely my favourite film of the year and has entered my Top 20 of all time as well. Had a wonderful time with this movie!
