Maybe I’m the idiot for expecting something better from Marvel. I actually liked Deadpool 2 but this movie ignores everything that made that one good (the nuance, the characters, the arc) and chose to focus on the one thing that was annoying about it (Deadpool). It isn’t enough though that they horribly misused Deadpool, they’ve also managed to desecrate such a great ending to Logan by bringing back Hugh Jackman for what is essentially a cameo marathon with no plot and a half baked character cooked in. What you get is literally 127 minutes of “remember this guy”, “do you understand this obscure reference, you clever boy”, “don’t you love this song” and I hate myself that I got every reference.
Who am I kidding? I would’ve eaten this movie up when I was fifteen. But I’m not and the people who got hyped for Endgame have seen all the slop that’s come after and just cause you can laugh at yourself about it, it doesn’t mean that didn’t happen so no matter how many times Deadpool says that the MCU sucks now, it doesn’t change the fact that he has now also joined this stinking run of terrible MCU movies. Yes, there were some gems in the middle – the first five episodes of Loki, the first eight episodes of Wandavision, GotG Vol 3 etc but for the most part its been reference after reference, cameo after cameo. Why does Marvel want to insult the intelligence of their audience this much? Do they not even understand what made those first three phases likeable? Are they so comfortable in the fact that this is going to make money cause shmucks like me dragged eight of their friends to watch it? I thought this was a really funny movie but it was literally nothing else and I miss when these movies made me feel something. Even if I say don’t watch this in theatres, most people will because their curiosity will get the better of them but if my opinion has influenced you in the past, then I would highly recommend you skip this one.
