This movie is pretty much as open to interpretation as it gets. I’ve seen people I respect a lot rate it everything from 1/2 star to five stars. That’s the sign of thought-provoking art that pretty much everyone WILL have an opinion about it. For the most part, I thought this was wildly entertaining. Some of it was because I was laughing at the stuff they wanted me to laugh at, often it was at stuff that I wasn’t exactly sure whether it was an intended joke or not. My friend thinks this film has nothing to say and it’s just pure randomness and spectacle. I don’t think it lacked substance that much, I did definitely feel like it had a lot of themes on its mind. For me, that was its biggest flaw – it had way too much on its mind for Francis Ford Coppola to possibly cover in 140 minutes. I thought pretty much all the performances were really fun and you can clearly tell the actors had a great time. Aubrey Plaza was so fun and she took her role to a place that I never imagined. The cinematography was pretty consistently awesome and I found the score to be lively throughout as well. Is this for everyone? Absolutely not. Do I recommend you watch this in theatres? If you don’t mind paying for something you could absolutely love or absolutely hate.
