The Mandalorian (2019) Season 1 Review

★★★★½ This show is incredible! It’s unlike anything I’ve ever seen from the Star Wars universe and yet is has this eerie similarity in many ways! It’s so unique in its storytelling format and just makes you enthralled with the entire world and the characters of the story. Pedro Pascal is the reason this show works. For a main character whose face you don’t see … Continue reading The Mandalorian (2019) Season 1 Review

Annie Hall (1977)

★★★★★  Watched 14 Apr, 2020 Annie Hall beat Star Wars (the original one) to win Best Picture back in 1977. I can see why. It’s incredible. It’s hilarious. It’s one of the most incredible comedies I’ve seen and yet it’s also one of the most nuanced love stories I’ve seen. Woody Allen is hilarious and spectacular making these hilarious anecdotes and fourth wall breaks. Of course, … Continue reading Annie Hall (1977)

Vertigo (1958)

★★★★★  Watched 14 Apr, 2020 In 2012, Vertigo was voted by Sight & Sound as the greatest film ever made, dethroning Citizen Kane. I can see why. Vertigo is excellent on so many levels that I cannot begin to describe. Alfred Hitchcock is obviously considered one of the greatest if not the greatest filmmaker of all time for a reason, and it’s very apparent in this … Continue reading Vertigo (1958)

Shrek (2001) – A Blast From the Past : Chapter 4

★★★  Rewatched 12 Apr, 2020 Before you attack me, I understand this film’s cultural significance and I’m not trying to defame its iconicity in any way. I am trying to review it purely as a film and nothing more. When put up under that lens, Shrek proves to be an entertaining, yet incomplete film. In 90 mins, it defies all Disney-esque tropes, gives you a bunch … Continue reading Shrek (2001) – A Blast From the Past : Chapter 4

Podcast Suggestions for these Quarantimes

After film, I think my next largest form of media consumption is probably in the form of podcasts. I love them because you can listen to them while doing other menial tasks, and learn something and get entertained, which does make it more stimulating that music. I’ve been listening to podcasts for about 6 to 7 years now and I have so many great suggestions in so many categories. I’ve sorted them out into nice categories, so that you can choose the ones based on what your interests are.

Personally, I use PocketCasts because of it’s cross-platform ability and because I’ve been using it for years. But Apple Podcasts, Spotify and Google Podcasts are also great platforms for you to start listening. I’ll be linking the Spotify links because that’s the most common way I’ve seen most people consume podcasts. So without further ado, let’s get started –

Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn)(2020)

★ Watched Mar 30, 2020 I had so much hope for this movie. This is the Suicide Squad spin-off that had so much promise. After Shazam! and Joker, DC were on a hot streak. This is also their first ‘A’ or ‘R’ rated film in this DCEU. But this film is an utter disappointment, it fails in everything it tries to do miserably. It’s not funny, it’s not … Continue reading Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn)(2020)

My Top 20 Coldplay Songs

DISCLAIMER – Surprisingly enough, this is my opinion. Music is subjective and I might like something that you don’t, and there’s nothing wrong with that.

Coldplay, is my favourite band. And unlike my favourite movie or favourite TV show, this hasn’t changed in almost 9 years now. I remember the first time I heard ‘Fix You’, it changed my life. I have never looked back since. Making this ranking took so long and if I could, I would make a Top 50, but I don’t have the time to write that and you don’t have the time to read that. So here’s my Top 20! I will be linking the related music videos so you can check the song out while reading my article.

My Top 10 TV Shows

DISCLAIMER – THIS IS MY OPINION! IF YOU DISAGREE WITH THIS RANKING, THAT IS YOUR OPINION.

Television is an art form quite similar to and yet quite different than film. Where film has a limited time to say it’s story, television has a lot more time and space to develop its characters and stories. However, television requires more commitment of time and energy as well as emotion.

The process, although time-consuming can also be extremely gratifying. It has a certain payoff, that often film can’t provide. I have been watching television shows as long as I have been watching film but I find it harder to review a television show than a movie because of the fluctuation in quality across several episodes. But here I have attempted to compile a list of my favourite TV shows. I hope you enjoy my article and check out these shows if you get the chance.

Monsters, Inc. (2001) : Blast From the Past – Chapter 3

★★★★½  Watched 26 Mar, 2020 Monsters, Inc. is incredible! The story is so beautifully captured in the limited 90 minutes that you can’t help but feel that this is an incredible film. Now, it isn’t ‘masterpiece’ levels, not in my opinion at least. It’s not as deep on an adult or mature level as some of the other entries by this company but it exceeds all … Continue reading Monsters, Inc. (2001) : Blast From the Past – Chapter 3

Icarus (2017)

★★★★★  Watched 24 Mar, 2020 I think Icarus is the best documentary I’ve ever watched. It’s groundbreaking, in its method of storytelling. It feels like a thriller or like a big-budget Hollywood blockbuster, but surprisingly its about real events. I was looking to watch a ‘sports documentary’ and I ended up watching one of the most eye-opening pieces of filmmaking which is a deep dive into … Continue reading Icarus (2017)

Ratatouille (2007) : Blast From the Past – Chapter 2

★★★★★  Rewatched 22 Mar, 2020 I know I’ve thrown this word around a lot recently but I really do mean it when I call this film a ‘masterpiece’. I really don’t see any flaws in this film. It does pretty much everything perfectly. It turns out I had forgotten just how good this movie was. Brad Bird shows his genius yet again. This is the film … Continue reading Ratatouille (2007) : Blast From the Past – Chapter 2
