My Top 20 Coldplay Songs

14. Talk

Album – X&Y

This is an underrated gem from Coldplay’s discography. It is one of their most inspirational songs in its lyrics. It’s also a really great vocal performance by Chris Martin. Especially in lockdown times like this, the message is incredibly resonant and it has one of the most upbeat and fun instrumentals.

13. Till Kingdom Come

Album – X&Y

I want this playing at my wedding. Just listen to it. I don’t have anything to add here.

12. God Put a Smile Upon Your Face

Album – A Rush of Blood To The Head

These are some extremely deep and thoughtful lyrics. This kind of existentialism is a mainstay of early Coldplay but this song in particular is extremely powerful. It also has one of my favourite Coldplay instrumental performances so that’s always a fun listen. I really like this song for so many reasons. It’s both a commentary on religion and a great song

11. Trouble in Town

Album – Everyday Life

I wouldn’t be putting a relatively new song so close to the top 10 if it weren’t this good. But Trouble in Town is just that good! The lyrics are extremely meaningful and powerful and it’s commentary on police brutality is amazing. It’s such a great instrumental as well as vocal performance too. It’s my favourite song on their new album.

My review will get less analytical and more emotional from this point because these are all songs I’ve listened to thousands of times, the individual merits become harder to ascertain.
