If you grew up with Phineas and Ferb like I did, then you’re going to absolutely love this movie. It’s everything the show embodied put into a movie. It’s like a really long episode of the show that can commit way more to the running jokes and callbacks than a 20-minute episode ever can. It’s the perfect length at 85 minutes and doesn’t overstay its welcome while still tying up all loose ends. While it’s quite obvious that this film was made for the sake of adding ‘original’ content to Disney+, the creators do not waste this opportunity to bring back the great writing that made the original show. The cast is as great as the original series. The animation which was already great in the original series is enhanced in this one resulting is some truly stunning visuals and frames. The musical numbers while not exactly memorable are still really fun in the moment and don’t fail to make you laugh. As this is a Candance-centred movie, Phineas and Ferb are pushed to the sideline which really enhances the movie because Candance is the most three-dimensional among the characters in the show as a whole. While her ‘character-arc’ is really touching, it feels undeserved and half-baked. Perry the Platypus is great but his character feels underused and as a Deus Ex Machina for a lot of the conflict. Since the lack of stakes is what made the show so great, the forced addition of ‘stakes’ makes the movie a little harder to digest than the show is but all-in-all this is still a really fun watch and is compulsory viewing for any fans of the show!
