Disclaimer – I’m a Liverpool fan.
It is rare that I am so mesmerised by a show or a character that I watch three one-hour episodes in a day, but all three days that Amazon dropped the three episodes, I watched them as soon as possible. As a football fan, it caused me immense joy to watch this show as it takes a deep-dive into one of the most tumultuous seasons in Tottenham’s history. But what makes this mini-series special is the way the story is set up. It has a special focus on character and these larger-than-life characters make up the crux of the show. Each person in the show is so well fleshed-out that you get emotionally invested in them. Jose Mourinho is one of the most interesting personalities in sport and just getting an inside-look into his managerial stint in itself would be enough, but to see the various character-relationships and power dynamics in this diverse Spurs squad is quite a treat. The drama in this show is so well-framed and set-up. It follows the All-Or-Nothing formula but perfects it by improving the little things. Serge Aurier, Son, and Dele Alli have the most interesting stories as the show goes. Also Harry Kane is definitely painted in a much more positive light and it’s fun to see him in the show. The main thing that makes this show so special is the way it makes the audience feel, it’s an emotional rollercoaster and the ending is quite bittersweet. I’ve watched some great sport docu-series recently, but this is leagues above any docu-series I’ve ever watched. Very few scripted shows can evoke the drama and emotion that All or Nothing: Tottenham Hotspur does. An absolutely essential watch for any sports fan in my opinion.
