I keep coming back and seeing my old number ratings for these films and I realize that I used to be the pretentious film critic who has lost the ability to have fun in the pursuit for peer validation that I make fun of nowadays. I SERIOUSLY gave this 3.5? WHAT? This movie is so goddamn good. I remember watching it in theatres and having my mind blown away. I remember WEEPING in the theatre in THAT scene. James Gunn is so so talented and this film is an explosion that proves to me why. An explosion of colour visually as you’re completely mesmerized by the visuals that Gunn manages to bring to the screen. An explosion of heart as you feel the complete range of emotions that this film wants you to. I felt like Gunn was a puppeteer and the puppet was my heart as he made me EXPERIENCE this film not just watch it. An explosion of humor as you will be made to burst out laughing without warning. An explosion of awesome as this has some of the coolest action scenes. Peter’s and Yondu’s character arc and the way their relationship was explored is so so nuanced. I am starting to think I actually might like this more than the original and trust me I LOVE THE ORIGINAL. I feel like my only problem with this film is that I didn’t really like the villain but that’s pretty much the only flaw for me.
