I guess my thoughts haven’t changed much since I first watched it. I used to review movies on YouTube back when this came out and although my presentation of thoughts is different, the amazement and awe I felt towards this film remain intact. Even through my pretentious phase, I retained my love for this film and I’m really glad because this is just one of my favourite MCU films. Everything is so funny and watching this at the beginning of high school and now at the end of high school, I noticed so many nuances and intricacies that I couldn’t catch the first time. Tom Holland is the perfect Peter Parker. He has the perfect balance of Maguire’s nerdiness with a mix of Garfield’s swagger and attitude to make this brilliantly concocted comic-accurate version of Spidey, that I loved to see. Micheal Keaton gives a POWERFUL (opposite of weak) performance as the Vulture and in my opinion, he’s one of the best MCU villains to date. The whole dynamic between him and Peter is so interesting and that car scene still gives me chills watching 4 years later. I think the humour works perfectly and all the jokes still had me laughing. The action scenes are so uniquely done because Peter learns something in each one and we actually get to see him mess up A LOT as any rookie superhero would. I loved that this got rid of the Uncle Ben storyline which had been done comprehensively twice already. But what elevated this film for me is the integration with the MCU. It’s the fully baked universe that sold the film for me. I also love the implementation of so many iconic comic book characters in a different way here like Ned, MJ, The Shocker and Aaron Davis. This set up so much and I just genuinely love this film so much.
